SHR Pacers

Adam

Long Course - 5:00-5:30/km

Distance Preference: Long Course (10-15km).

Favourite SHR Course: Rushcutters Bay! (Lavender Bay is a close 2nd)

Adam is our team leader and has been running with SHR since 2013, the same year that he ran his first marathon. He usually runs the group warmup session at the start of our runs, and also works part-time as a personal trainer and running coach, with a passion for helping runners to prevent injuries.

Adam enjoys Ultra Trail races, and has participated in several long-distance running events both in Australia and overseas. He is also enthusiastic about Orienteering and Rogaining, despite having a terrible sense of direction! Ask him about upcoming events on the race calendar and training trips to prepare for your next distance goal.

Fraser

Long Course - 5:30/km

Fraser has been running in Sydney since 2009, but didn’t join SHR until 2021, when his long-term Achilles injury began to heal and he started working in the city.

Growing up in Wellington, New Zealand, he’s used to trail runs, but has moved to the road in recent years, running the marathon in Sydney last year and in Gold Coast this year.

He normally paces the 5:30 long course, even if that means running the last part on his own while everyone else heads to the bar early.

Jen

Short Course - 5:30/km

John

Short/Long Course - 5:00/km

Distance Preference: Usually short course but happy to step up to the long when required

Favourite SHR Course: Probably the little used KX/Loftus Road course just for the uphill challenge

Originally from a small town outside Newcastle-upon-Tyne in England, John only took up running in his mid-30s once he had realised it was possible to run in Sydney without freezing to death or his hair blowing off.

He has been running on and off with SHR for 6-7 years (when injuries permit) but only started pacing (usually the 5 minute short) during the pandemic.

He took up running mainly to get fit as the middle-aged spread started to take hold, but values the unexpected social friendly aspect of the running community and the mental health benefits running brings.

He has completed in several half mararthons and multiple City2Surfs but only one marathon so far..and definitely no ultras!

Kwong

Long Course - 5:30-6:30/km

I love swimming and cycling, growing up. Several years ago, my work got me into triathlon. Whilst I did okay with my swims and cycles, I always struggled with my runs. I guess I just never enjoyed it as much as the other two sports.

Then came 2023, and I decided that my New Year’s resolution was to get better at running. The goal was really just to run better, so I could enjoy the sport of triathlon and not feel like dying when the running leg comes. So I joined SHR in the first week of 2023. Since then, I have become a far better runner than I ever thought I would, and I now enjoy running way more than I used to.

I have also met so many amazing people through SHR, and a few have become my close friends. To top it all off, SHR also helped me breaking my own 5km, 10km, and half marathon PBs. I also did a marathon, something I never would have thought about before I joined SHR.

If there’s anything I’ve learned, I don’t swim...

Matt

Short Course - 6:00/km

Favourite course: Pyrmont

Matt started running 2016 as a cheaper way to keep fit than an expensive gym membership. The addictive nature of running has lead to Matt completing multiple full and half marathons.

Although injuries (and poor lifestyle choices) has decreased pace and distances covered, Matt still loves the social aspect of SHR and has been running with the group since 2018.

Outside of running Matt is a big sports fan, so hit him up for a conversation about your sport of choice.

Paulina

Long Course - 5:00/km - Fast Five :)

Favourite course: Ms Mac Chair

Paulina is a polish/canadian gal who came to Sydney in 2016 and that’s when she joined SHR. Since then, this club went from running with people who love to run (and drink) into a running family. In 2017 she became a pacer, pacing her group that most people know as the “fast five” group. :) Her passion for running and fitness started at the age of 16 and led her towards her career as a physio and a running coach. You can find her running races on the roads, or jumping into the trails for a run on the weekends with friends.

Other than running she also loves to go camping with her husband to be and her 2 dogs, Roy and Yogi Bear. Recently she became a new mum to a beautiful baby boy and she’s currently on pacing maternity leave. Paulina’s goal as a pacer is to reach out to as many people as she can, showing them how amazing the sport of running is with friends and the potential we have to grow...

Peter

Long Course - 4:30/km

Favourite SHR course: Harbour Bridge

Peter started running in high school, and did his first City 2 Surf in 1992. He took a break for mountain biking, but after a memorable bike crash at Manly Dam took up running again at parkrun in 2015 (only another 74 runs needed for the 250 shirt!). He joined Sydney Harbour Runners in about 2018, and became a pacer in 2023. When not running he can be found road biking in the Eastern Suburbs or the Northern Beaches, or planning an overnight hike.

His favourite things about Sydney Harbour Runners are the challenge and exhilaration of running a brisk pace with a friendly group, making good friendships, and welcoming and encouraging new members.

Ray

Short Course - 6:00/km

Favourite SHR Course: Anything over the Harbour Bridge!

Ray started running during one of the many Sydney lockdowns in 2021, and he has been hooked ever since! On weekends, you’ll find him at St Peters parkrun complaining about the big hill and finding excuses to have coffee after the run.

Ray recently finished the 2023 Sydney marathon and is already looking forward to next year’s one where hopefully the weather won’t be sweltering!
